Mathstastic

Mathstastic workshop

Mathstastic makes maths fun and shows that there is much more to maths than arithmetic.

Our popular ‘Mathstastic’ programme returns for the 2010/2011 academic year with activities for both KS3 and KS2 pupils and their teachers.

Each two-hour Mathstastic session engages students with mathematics using live demonstrations, hands-on activities, teamwork and a good dose of fun. Pupils find out about the maths all around them on our indoor and outdoor maths trails and explore the maths behind both classic and new puzzles and games in our Mathstastic circus. The live maths show in our theatre uses plenty of audience participation to help solve maths challenges and gives our science explainers a chance to demonstrate some surprising maths tricks and puzzles.

Booking opens shortly for both KS3 and KS2 Mathstastic. If you have any questions or would like any additional information about Mathstastic, please call the Education team on (0191) 243 8243 or e-mail education@life.org.uk

KS3 Mathstastic: 15 November – 3 December 2010

Year 7 and 8 maths classes of all abilities will encounter plenty of engaging and enjoyable maths during our KS3 Mathstastic sessions. Each two-hour session of hands-on maths includes an outdoor maths trail in Times Square (indoor trail available in case of bad weather!), designed to encourage teamwork and incorporating a wide range of mathematical skills, the Mathstastic Challenge show in the Life theatre where students are pitted against one another in a wide range of mathematical challenges and the Mathstastic circus which is an opportunity to explore our large selection of interactive maths puzzles, games and problems and the maths behind them.

KS2 Mathstastic: 10 January – 4 February 2011

Suitable for year 5 and 6, KS2 Mathstastic sessions are two hours of engaging and hands-on maths. Through a combination of live demonstrations and audience participation the 0.07 Spy Show reveals the maths skills needed to be a super spy and challenges pupils to put their maths talents to the test. An hour in the Mathstastic circus gives pupils the opportunity to try out a large variety of puzzles and games and discover the mathematics behind them and the Mathstastic trail develops both teamwork and investigative skills.
