Are all activities and exhibitions included in the admission charge?

Yes, once you pay at reception you have access to all activities in the Life Science Centre (unless specifically otherwise stated). This does not include the seasonal Skating@Life.

What time are the shows?

The Shows run at various times during the day depending on demand. Please ask a member of staff when you arrive for the show times for your visit.

Do I have to book for the shows/activities in advance?

You are not required to book in advance for any shows unless advised at reception when purchasing tickets. All activities are filled on a first come first served basis.

Do I have to pre-book tickets to the centre?

No, tickets can only be pre-booked for groups of 10 of more. Groups are eligible for a discount of 1 in 10 goes free when booking 5 or more working days in advance. See here for more details of group bookings.

What age is the Life Science Centre suitable for?

The Life Science Centre caters for visitors of all ages, from pre-school to grown-ups, although explanations and subject matter is specifically aimed at children aged 6 or older. If you would like to discuss suitability in more detail, please call (0191) 243 8223.

What activities are available for very young children?

The Life Science Centre is very hands-on, and caters for visitors of all ages. We have a special area specifically designed for under 7s; a planetarium show called ‘Naughty Monsters in the Sky’ and a series of pre-school days. For more information, ring (0191) 243 8223.

Is car parking available nearby?

Yes, our multi-storey Times Square Car Park is a short walk away, providing easy access to the centre.

Are there catering facilities and can we bring our own food and drink?

The Life Science Centre has two cafés. Times Square cafe, which overlooks the square, is open 7 days a week. You'll find an array of hot and cold snacks, including delicious soups, sandwiches and cakes. We also brew Starbucks here. Outside seating and Wi fi are available. Our in-centre Life Café is open at weekends and during school holidays. There is also a FREE packed lunch area for customers bringing their own food and drink.

Is there anywhere to leave my belongings?

Yes, lockers are available for hire in our reception area. A £5.00 deposit is required and £4.00 will be returned when you return your key.

How long does a visit take?

We recommend that you plan to spend around 3-4 hours for your visit to Life in order to take in all our shows and exhibitions, although you are very welcome to just drop in, or stay all day long.

How long is my ticket valid?

Your ticket is valid for the whole day of purchase only.

Would we be allowed to leave Life then come back in later on the same day?

Yes, just keep hold of your ticket and show it at reception when you come back in.

Are there baby changing facilities?

Yes, baby changing facilities are available throughout the centre.

Is the centre wheelchair and pushchair accessible?

Yes, the centre is fully accessible for both wheel chair users and pushchairs.

What payments do you accept?

We accept all major credit/debit cards except American Express.

Are children allowed into the Life Science Centre without adult supervision?

Children aged 13 and over will be admitted to the science centre unaccompanied.

Do you provide WiFi access?

Yes. WiFi access is available in our Times Square cafe. There's a minimum purchase requirement of £2.00.

What is your policy on photography on site?

The Centre for Life is private property. It’s a popular subject for photographers and although we are happy in most instances for architectural photographs to be taken, please let us know in advance by informing a member of the Science Centre reception team or calling the PR team on (0191) 243 8209. You are welcome to take photographs of your friends and family while visiting the Science Centre or ice rink , but please refrain from taking photographs of other people without prior permission.
